2013 is extremely optimistic.

The only group that was scanlating Btooom! dropped it once the manga was licensed for an official English translation.

How could you even put this in your top 5...in general or for just this season? 6-7/10 at best. I will say that part 2 of the story does have greater potential. In any case, I would be surprised if this got a second season if it is solely dictated on the volume sales. But who knows what profit margin they want to meet to green light a S2. Always variable. But I mean Hiiro no Kakera got a S2...that was a freaking shock since that show is seriously terrible.

In the end, if the continuation does get animated I would watch it since it isn't a bad show. It just was a little too much "meh" for too many episodes.

I put it there because its a enjoyable/favorite anime of this year.
Plus I don't know what else to put as my most favorite animes. Too many so I chose to put an very enjoyable one of the year to put as my top 5.

I definitely want a 2nd season. :D I think it was very cool idea to let the viewers decide if we want a 2nd season or not. A similar thing happened a loong time ago but I don't remember what anime it was.
Thanks for starting the series so far and I will definitely watch the 2nd one.

Cheers,

The reason why I didn't want to make a poll is because a lot of people don't like Btooom! ...
so I didn't want the "no"'s to be higher. I want the yes's to anilihate.

I'm not sure about that ;) Incomplete series that end in a great note and have many interesting characters as well as plot points to close like this usually warrant high yes's rating. Even though many people may not enjoy Btooom! that much, the feeling of indifference will let them hit yes's. I have seen it in Accel World's forum.

yeah Deadman Wonderland should have a remake once the manga is completed since they ended the manga with a filler ending, and some characters weren't included when they become more important later on.

Being able to adapt 50 chapters of such a complex manga into 12 episodes only, without ruining it mind you, is an impressive feat. Although there are a few scenes I would've preferred to see animated properly (like Kira being trapped with Ryouta instead of him simply 'finding' his BIM on the beach) but it's okay.

Concerning a second season- even though there's quite some number of evidence there, I wouldn't bet my money on it. So far the sales haven't been the best and it's questionable whether it'll get better over time. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing a continuation but I won't hold my breath for it.

If there had been a genuine hope of making a second season, MH wouldn't have gone through 8+ volumes in 12 episodes. Especially not with an unimpressive budget. It would've had Bakuman pacing if that was the case. Now there's nothing left to animate that could fit into another 12 eps, meaning the only way a continuation in the near future would work is if it got continued in a short OVA--like Black Lagoon. The big difference between BL and this, though, is that BL made money and is a series consisting of arcs with clear start and end points that allow for smooth short adaptations.

If I were an optimist, I'd say there's always a chance of a sequel being made in a few years when there's enough new content to animate. But it's rare for an anime series to be continued if there's more than a year in-between seasons. People lose interest if a lot of time passes and it wouldn't make good business sense to exclude new fans by randomly continuing an unpopular story several years down the line.

In short: give up and read the manga. Kaiji getting a second season from MH years after the first gives some hope, yeah, but Kaiji was an anime with a lot more effort/direction put in than Btooom and always had a better chance of being appreciated by the seinen demographic with its intelligent mind-games. Btooom, on the other hand, is stuck between shounen & seinen, content-wise, and doesn't fully please either...

Seems like the manga scanlators have given up on this too since the scanlations stop at 51 while 52+ is out in raws unless they do it by volume

Its a shame because all in all this was not too bad and to leave it on a cliff hanger ending sucks. I feel like a second season could have really saved this series since the potential is there. I wish it would sell better but its unlikely.

Thank you for your well thought analysis. I was struck by your points on not a good business sense to continue an unpopular anime several years down the line. It exactly is the case most of the times. However, since the budget for the next season would not be impressive either, Madhouse can cut the cost and ends up more then even if the next arcs from Btooom! Manga are well received overseas. The reason the anime did not do so well in Japan is because people there are already too familiar with Battle-Royal type shows but people in the States were just introduced to it via The Hunger Game. I have seen Btooom! well popularity in Crunchy Rolls and MAL (one of the most watched series in MAL this season) that gives me some hopes. The art style is also a weak point for Btooom! in Japan because of its non-Moeness. But it might be a great look for foreign audiences (Death Note-style) and we all know how successful Death Note is overseas. Therefore, Btooom! might have caught the Hunger Game trends and can be really successful in the West

Hasn't Highschool of the Dead been confirmed/green-lit for a second season twice now at Anime Expo 2011 and by Kadokawa in April 2012? Beyond those two announcements, there hasn't been much further news. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, because the release scenario for both series could be similar. It would set a precedent for MH (studio behind both Btooom and HotD) releasing a second season several years after the first season's end. And taking into account HotD's manga hiatus, it would mean going proceeding with anime-only material which might be necessary for a reasonably timed release of a second season of Btooom (since the first season covered nearly all of the chapters released so far).

There shouldn't have even been a first season with how naive Ryouta. He would have been dead long ago with how trusting he is. But since he is the main character they can't just kill him off.

This is what I heard.

"If I were on that island with his skills I would straight up murder everyone I come across."

In society, whether you want to or not you have to trust other people. Just because you're away from it and some gamemaster's pitting you against each other the enemy isn't everyone else. It's the asshole gamemaster. I agree with most of Ryouta's desicions.

By international sales do you mean besides buying the manga from Japan in Japanese?
.... so like English translated ones could count as sales to make a second season?

If thats the case that'd be pretty fucking awesome.
Just wondering how we'd get that info of those "international sales"

Not like that, they can give it a go of course. But then, we will get an anime based on.. something that has nothing to do with actual manga and ideas that mangaka have in his head, as there are not enough chapters to animate as of now.
It's nothing new though, as we had such experience in the past - FMA(2003), Gantz, Berserk, Hellsing(2001) and some other titles which manga is still ongoing but anime is somewhat finished in very awkward manner.

If you want to talk about incomplete animes then look no further then Deadman Wonderland, that anime is actually really good I don't understand how the animes work but what I know for sure is that more often then not animes that do really well in Japan end up being a bust in the USA and animes that are a hit in USA end up being a bust in Japan from time to time there are animes that do well in both sides but if an anime is a bust in Japan they more often then not drop the anime which is sad because I really was hoping to finish Deadman Wonderland. (I know this is the wrong section for this but it follows what is being dicussed atm so I figured I would bring it up. Sorry if this is inappropriate.)

Dunno if anyone replied to this, but from what I heard the reason that Deadman Wonderland went unfinished was because the author of the manga got pregnant and stopped working on it for that reason, and hasn't picked it back up yet.

He has had plenty of time to see that the people on this island for the most part just kill each other. Is it that hard to see the next person being the same way? Besides the real world isn't much better now is it?
