Nidhoeggr said: Mind you - I am NOT saying that they are homophobe (tell me where I said that) but I said they are overly sensitive to the matter. And whether it is open thread or just something more like a background business-as-usual for this future world, it is not something that has to be put as the only comment about the show. If you want to talk about open threads, there are tons of it from the anime and many are related to the main stories - why those are not mentioned? If there is any "blow out of proportion" it is those who choose to mention the scene as the only thing he wants to mention when he wants to talk about this anime.I like how you assume that everyone who cites this lesbian sex scene is always a homophobe and is not citing it because... well, it is kinda pointless as Yayoi's character was left hanging despite so many advances in that direction. It is just one of the more obvious examples of the open threads PP still has, don't blow it out of proportion. |
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

symbv said: Such turn-off and bitching comes so often (and in fact predictable) that I am sure it is annoying to many people. Those people state only the lesbian sex but nothing else when they talk about this series which means they are defining the anime purely from the perspective of lesbian sex. Is it fair? No. Is it sensitive? I would even say it is OVERLY sensitive. I am fine with someone who does not find homosexuality to his liking but the only comment or thought he could come up with about the show is just those few seconds of lesbian scene which is not even part of any main story in the anime? I'd say - Come On ! OK, lets get back to my original posts : Amiluhur said: Mixed feelings. The overall first season of PP still left a lot to be desired of. It had strong thematic message and interesting plot, but the executions were all over the place, particularly in the second half. And to be frank, i'm getting tired with Urobuchi's knack to go about and throws too many philosopical statements, which makes the dialogues repetitive over time. And while the ending was a bit banal, it still left many unanswered speculations, in which my expectations for the second seaon lies on Amiluhur said: Ugh, anything but this one. The lesbian sex scene at the last eps was already a huge turn off for me and i sincerely wish Urobuchi won't exploit such thing for the sake of ramping up the edginess anymore Look, i mentioned many things about this show. And this one is being "sensitive" about homosexuality? Which part? And i agree with Nidhoeggr that you're just blowing things out of proportions |

Yes! I'm really glad that there will be a second season and movie. It was a series I eagerly waited for each week. I may be one of the few who thought the ending was done well and I thought the loose ends fit (does that make sense?). However, I only hope that these loose ends are tied up though in a second season. Though I'm a bit apprehensive as to whether they'll execute the characters well depending on the plot... |

Do you think I said what I said only because I saw your post and you are the first person who said the lesbian scene was a big turn-off to him for this show? That is just you and Nidhoeggr projecting the whole part of my criticism, which applies to a group of people not just in this thread, onto yourselves. The thing is both you and Nidhoeggr has this "homosexuality is such a big turn-off to me that any show that has it must be judged by that" thing. Besides, even your first comment mentions a bunch of things, in your second post you had to bring up how you dislike the lesbian scene (and that only). In a way it is just like Nidhoeggr, who could only mention the lesbian scene even though there are a lot of open threads that need to be explored - at the end it seems the biggest thing in his mind that lingers from the show is that lesbian scene.Look, i mentioned many things about this show. And this one is being "sensitive" about homosexuality? Which part? And i agree with Nidhoeggr that you're just blowing things out of proportions |

I mentioned in several other threads that the entire philosophical standpoint of the show is flawed, made comparisions to Brave New World and you only focus on the fact that I used this specific example. Do you know why I used it? Because Yayoi's character is a good example. She got an entire episode of a fairly decent story for what: Only a few seonds of sex and nothing else? What about the potential of her character and her subplot in the grander scheme of things? It is examplary because it shows how PP makes a deal out of explaining, stating and showing specific developments, using up a lot of space and then doing nearly nothing with it. THIS is my main criticism for that show, unlike what you like to promote because it seems obvious to me that you have a problem with people who criticize as evidenced by your constant stream of dumb LOL posts. |

Now you seem to be saying that just because you have mentioned over time, in many places, about other aspects of the show, that means I could not criticize you for being able to recall the lesbian scene as the only "open thread" you want to bring up for S2. This is just pure ridiculous. I mentioned in several other threads that the entire philosophical standpoint of the show is flawed, made comparisions to Brave New World and you only focus on the fact that I used this specific example. Nidhoeggr said: Well, if there is anything I want to promote it is more articulate writing and sensible arguments. If you had written all those reasoning you just posted in your original post, and put it in proper perspective, instead of just spewing an one line comment about what the show needs to resolve (the lesbian scene) perhaps you will make it easier for people to understand your point. THIS is my main criticism for that show, unlike what you like to promote because it seems obvious to me that you have a problem with people who criticize as evidenced by your constant stream of dumb LOL posts. As for the "stream of dumb LOL posts" I wrote it on the same level of the posts I replied to. If they are dumb, then it is only natural that they get dumb level of reply LOL |

But as you once again resort to your LOL pattern I see no point in continuing this any longer. Grow out of your childish phase, symbv. |

And I have already mentioned my point about the yaoi scene in the anime when I said it could be an "open thread or just something more like a background business-as-usual for this future world" which is why I do not think it is necessarily a writing flaw. You may think the issue of the lesbian sex to be so significant that it has to be explored but I have a feeling that the writer just wanted to show that it is something that is not such a big deal in the future world and this is why it was shown just like a side statement and no attempt was made to drill down into it. |

Or it could just be random fanservice or flawed writing. And until we find out about that in S2 I don't think it is wise to assume that you know more about the author's intentions than everyone else here. |

I don't know... PP without Makishima doesn't sound very PP-ish. They could continue from where they left off, but without Makishima..... well, it just doesn't sound PP-ish. The movie is fine without Makishima, but the series. Oh well, I get more Akane and Dominator goodness, so who cares? I just hope they don't fuck up. |

The lesbian sex scene at the last eps was already a huge turn off for me and i sincerely wish Urobuchi won't exploit such thing for the sake of ramping up the edginess anymore I have mixed feeling about that part of PP: Sure, we have to ask ourselves if this was really necessary but on the other hand this could make for a decent subplot and initiate a character arc with potential. I think that was meant as an Easter Egg for anyone who has noticed both character's sexuality and their subtle appearances together throughout the series. Besides, it seems like a "friend with benefit" relationship of convenience since one of the two's movement is restricted. Thus, there is little to expand on this relationship, or to make a subplot for that matter. The main driving force of the second season would be the relationship development of the two main leads if they reappear. |

sdFKASDLFJAsdklFJ ASLDKFJAS DFUCK I'M EXCITED. Okay, after calming myself down I realize that I have quite mixed feelings. I'm really hoping they do tie up the loose ends. Now, the only question is, will Akane be the protagonist or will it be someone else (like that new girl at the end of the first season)? Considering how it's a 'new story' I'm guessing it's the latter. |
