| This is basically asking which is the best anime if you take into account both your taste and the general consensus, it could be 50-50 but I think it should lean more towards the latter (I'd say 70% general consensus, 30% your taste). I'd still pick Frieren because it has the right mix of action and contemplativeness that make it appealing to both young and expert anime fans. The fact that it isn't a complete story might be an issue, but I would worry about that only when the manga ends and if the ending/final arc(s) will be disappointing. EDIT: after thinking about it, there's another anime that would be more suited for the n°1 spot, "objectively speaking": Cowboy Bebop. It's the anime you could find in an elitist starter pack that is appreciated and watched the most by the mainstream audience, thanks all the action/guns/spaceships and sakuga; it's also a complete story. The only issue is that I'm not a fan of it, so Frieren is still my choice. |

But to have some fun though, I dunno Frieren can be there and like I liked the fact that FMA Brotherhood was on top since it's my favorite anime. BUT something deserving of the spot. There is none since all are just stories and media and none can be truly above all else imo since I don't have actual strong favorites or opinions regarding high ratings |
| Yu Yu Hakusho. In my opinion, it's not only my favorite anime emotionalwise, but also the best one in general. Frieren is in my favorites as well, but I have to leave it out, which means the only show which might come close to it is Inuyasha. I like K-On! very much, but I can't really see it or a similar kind of show being the #1 of MAL. |

| FMAB was a very respectable thing to be top of the list. The moist deserving anime ever is probably Utena, but expecting a surreal shoujo masterpiece to top the rankings is not very realistic. |

It is a masterpiece of the craft of a director. And then you have an OST that gets better every time I listen to it. LotGH comes a close second. And then Aria the Natural. |

For my personal enjoyment I could say things like Sangatsu, Made in Abyss or Romeo's Blue Skies, but they don't have this binding property to reach and connect with vast majority of the anime fanbase, they are more tailor-made shows that does really well with the people it tries to reach, but it won't do so to ubiqitously. |

| Since they're here on MAL... at least a few Ghibli films should be up in the top 10. Spirited Away I think easily qualifies for the top spot. For regular TV anime, I'm too much of a newbie to talk about anything "of all time"... But from the few I've seen, I believe Cowboy Bebop wouldn't feel out of place at the top spot. Honestly, I think Frieren is a reasonable choice for a top anime, at least in the year 2025. Time will tell if it really deserves to be up there. |

| I want Onimai or Mushoku Tensei to be number 1 because they represent the apex of modern masculinity ie a fragile need for plausible deniability to engage in truly deranged behaviour. Moreover, tame vanilla fanservise in other series is condemned, but things like this are acceptable and "critically" acclaimed because they have the plausible deniability of age regression gender swap and age regression reincarnation. Given that series like Frieren, FMA, AOT, and Gintama have all gotten hate for being number 1, the best case scenario is for the Studio p*Do duo to also have this rank and truly explode into the mainstream how hypocritical people's approach to fanservice is. |
